What is EMDR Therapy?
EMDR therapy is a type of mental health treatment. It has shown very strong results for people suffering from Bipolar Disorder 1, Bipolar Disorder 2, anxiety, depression, and most notably, trauma. EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing and uses back and forth eye movement or muscle stimulation in an effort to stimulate both hemispheres of the brain simultaneously. The idea behind bilateral stimulation is to help you stay present and grounded in the current moment. This helps patients understand that they are somewhere safe while working through painful or powerful memories, thoughts, and feelings. The safer and more present clients are during EMDR therapy, the more productive and successful we find therapeutic sessions to be — whether it’s Bipolar Disorder Treatment, trauma, or and other mental health disorders.
During EMDR therapy at Revibe Therapy in Winter Park for Bipolar Disorder treatment, there are five main steps: history taking, preparation, assessment, desensitization, and installation. These steps are taken over multiple sessions and help to replace disturbing, painful, or otherwise uncomfortable thoughts, memories, and feelings with more positive imagery.
